WRITING
As far back as I can remember, writing has always been a part of me. Within my notebooks and journals I have prayed, remembered, lamented, praised, and well… everything in between. I have an introspective personality so you will find that a lot of my articles and writings are a blend of sorting through what God’s Word calls us to and how I am processing through it in my own life. My thirties have been such a growth filled time for me, I am excited to share more here on Living In His Light. I admit that I am not the * best * writer. I have plenty of typos and grammatical errors, but what you will often find is that reading my words is much like carrying on a conversation… and being one on one is one of my favorite ways to connect.
I also have hopes to share some poetry and songs, if I am ever brave enough to hit “Post” on those. To discover more about why I am back blogging again, check out this post called New Beginnings.
FAMILY
I am married to my wonderful Jared. He and I knew each other since freshman year of high school and he was always a kind friend. That foundation of friendship has been the bedrock for the most wonderful relationship in my life. We put a ring on it at the young age of twenty-one and I am grateful for the life we are building. After walking through many years of infertility and loss, we have been blessed with three wonderful, silly, amazing children: Addie (she’s 5), Judah (he’s 4), & Andrew (he’s 2).
Our family loves to spend the summers outside having bonfires with s’mores, taking daily walks or hikes, or hitting up our favorite playgrounds. During the frigid Ohio winters we cozy up with puzzles and a fire going in the fireplace… Or watch the Paw Patrol movie for the 800th time. We have dinner around the table together almost every night and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Raising three littles can have its hard moments, but it’s the best kind of work!
ENTREPRENEURS
Jared & I own a company called Howell Made Media (HMM) that specializes in video production, brand photography, and website design. We started up HMM after years of this kind of media work being a “side hustle”. We finally realized that Howell Made Media could be the key to creating work and a life that we love. Deciding to go all in has been exhilarating and the most wild ride. It’s been a leap of faith, but we are really excited about the growth we have experienced and the growth to come.
Entrepreneurship has its challenges. Not many understand the day in day out commitment to building something out of nothing all while not relying on a paystub from someone else. It’s liberating and pretty scary all at the same time! I plan on sharing here some of what I have learned from our journey of entrepreneurship - on taking risks, creating, and overcoming failure. I also have plans on writing about how to support, love, and encourage your husband if he is a “dreamer” or constantly having new business ideas and endeavors!

COFFEE
Why do you talk about how much you love coffee all the time?
A few years ago during a difficult season (including a little bit of overwhelming days of motherhood coupled with anxiety), I started to realize that the one thing I looked forward to every morning, was my first cup of coffee for the day. Cozy and warm. Energizing. Constant. A simple pleasure.
Coffee for me is more than a “vibe” or silly add on to my instagram aesthetic. It’s a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. It’s being grateful for routine and familiarity.
So while I love me a honey cinnamon latte, my favorite part of my day is that first cup of coffee. It’s simply wonderful. So I enjoy sharing about it! You’ll see a lot of pictures of that around here.
It’s important to note that while I am ever so grateful for others to be reading my blog, this website exists as an outlet for my creativity and thoughts. I don’t align with the concept that success is only measured by metrics in likes, follows, or shares. What if just one person reads this and has a perspective shift? Or another is prompted by the Holy Spirit to repent and turn to Jesus? What if no one reads this and it simply remains… mine? I am okay with that. Painters splash paint to express and communicate an emotion. Musicians compose and play as a way to express how they are feeling. I write to give an outlet to my thoughts and emotions… So this website is a reflection of my creativity and my tastes! I love mountains and oceans and lighthouses and coffee and rustic vibes… So this site is going to be curated with things that I find soothing and beautiful.
But one final thought on this creative endeavor… above all, Living In His Light is one more way that I show my creator that He is worthy of all the praise, all the glory. Writing for me, is worship to God. Soli Deo Gloria!
